A dental hygienist enjoys a good deal of flexibility in his or her work schedule which can be comprised of either full-time or part-time, evening or weekend hours. Dentists often hire a hygienist to work a couple to a few days a week, so a dental hygienist may be employed in more than one dental office.

Work conditions for a dental hygienist are favorable as they include clean, bright offices and professional co-workers. Hygienists are quite safe in their work given the stringent health policies regarding radiological procedure and anesthetic gas administration. In addition, dental hygienists protect themselves with safety glasses, surgical masks and gloves, particularly against the spread of infectious disease between patient and hygienist.
